Mihashi (みはし) is a Japanese dessert cafe on the first underground level of Tokyo-eki ichibangai (東京駅一番街). Tokyo-eki ichibangai is in Tokyo station (but outside of ticket getes). So it’s very convinient for tourists and You can eat Japanese traditional desserts in the cafe.
There is a showcase in front of the entrance of Mihashi, so you can see and then choose your dessert.
The brown paste is Anko (あんこ) which is red bean jam. Anko is almost used in traditional sweets and desserts. The white ball is Shiratama made from glutinous rice powder. Jelly made from seeweed is in the bottom. It is calld as Kanten, and Kanten is also used in traditional desserts fruquently. Brown sugar syrup is served and you put the syrup on the dessert.
If you don’t want to eat sweets. I suggest you to eat Ozouni (おぞうに).
In Japan, all people eat Ozouni in New year. That is a coustom proper to Japan. Ozouni is a soup containing glutinous rice. Topping ingredients reflects locality, and vary from place to place. In the case of Mihashi, Chicken, egg, mashroom vegetable and fish gel (Kamaboko) are used.
